No other country on Earth packages this range of extraordinary experience within a single two-week journey. This itinerary — Serac Adventure’s most popular combination — has been refined over years of running the logistics seamlessly from our Moshi base.

It is demanding. It is expensive. It is completely worth it. This guide gives you the full day-by-day itinerary, the logistics, the cost breakdown, the seasonal adjustments, and everything you need to plan and book the ultimate Tanzania trip in 2026.

Days 14+: Optional Zanzibar extension (add 3–4 days for beach recovery)

Option A: The classic 14-day itinerary — Kilimanjaro + safari

This version fits exactly into 14 days and combines the 8-day Lemosho Route with a compact 3-day northern circuit safari. It does not include Zanzibar — that requires a 17–18 day itinerary. Perfect for travellers with exactly two weeks.

Days 1–2 Arrive MoshiArrival and acclimatisation Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer to Moshi. Day 1 is for rest, hotel check-in, and acclimatisation. Day 2 is a Materuni Waterfalls and coffee tour day — the ideal acclimatisation walk on the lower Kilimanjaro slopes while introducing you to Chagga culture before the climb begins. Pre-climb gear check at Serac Adventure office on Day 2 afternoon.
Days 3–10 Kilimanjaro8-day Lemosho Route — summit Uhuru Peak The Lemosho Route: Day 3 (rainforest, Mti Mkubwa Camp), Day 4 (moorland, Shira 1), Day 5 (Shira Plateau, Shira 2), Day 6 (Lava Tower acclimatisation, Barranco Camp), Day 7 (Barranco Wall scramble, Karanga Camp), Day 8 (high camp, Barafu), Day 9 (summit night — midnight departure, Uhuru Peak 5,895m, descent to Mweka Camp), Day 10 (final descent, Mweka Gate, return to Moshi). Summit certificate presented at gate.
Day 11 RecoveryChemka Hot Springs recovery day After the Kilimanjaro descent, your legs need rest and your body needs warm water. The Chemka Hot Springs day trip is the perfect recovery activity — warm, crystal-clear geothermal water in a forest oasis 90 minutes from Moshi. Alternatively, a full rest day at the hotel with a massage and good food is equally valid.
Days 12–14 Safari3-day northern circuit safari Abbreviated but excellent 3-day safari departing Moshi. Day 12: Tarangire National Park afternoon arrival game drive — elephant herds, baobabs, superb introduction. Day 13: Full Serengeti day — central Seronera Valley, lion prides, cheetah, Migration herds (season-dependent). Day 14 morning: Ngorongoro Crater descent — 6-hour crater floor game drive, Big Five opportunity, black rhino search. Return to Moshi or transfer direct to JRO airport for departure.

Option B: The 17-day grand Tanzania itinerary — Kilimanjaro + safari + Zanzibar

Add Zanzibar to the above itinerary for the complete Tanzania experience. After Day 14’s Ngorongoro descent, fly from Arusha to Zanzibar (45 minutes). Spend Days 15–18 on the island — Stone Town exploration on arrival, beach days at Nungwi or Kendwa, snorkelling on the fringing reef, Spice Farm tour, sunset dhow cruise. Fly home from Zanzibar International Airport.

The three-part journey — mountain, wildlife, ocean — is the definitive Tanzania experience and the combination that most visitors describe as the trip of their lives.

Option C: Compact 12-day version — 7-day Machame + 3-day safari

For travellers with exactly 12 days: substitute the 8-day Lemosho with the 7-day Machame Route (saving 1 day), keep the same recovery day and 3-day safari. The Machame Route delivers excellent acclimatisation via Lava Tower and summit success rates of 82–87%. One day shorter but fully satisfying.

Frequently asked questions: 14-day Tanzania itinerary

Should I do Kilimanjaro before or after the safari?

Kilimanjaro first is strongly recommended. The climb is physically demanding — arriving for a safari after Kilimanjaro means you can relax in the vehicle and enjoy the experience on recovering legs. Doing the safari first and then climbing Kilimanjaro means arriving at the mountain slightly tired and potentially less focused. The psychological flow also works better: conquer the mountain, then celebrate with wildlife and a beach.

How much fitness is required for this itinerary?

The Kilimanjaro component requires genuine preparation — begin an 8–12 week training programme before departure. The safari and Zanzibar components require no specific fitness. The hardest day of the entire 14-day itinerary is Kilimanjaro summit night — nothing in the safari or beach portion comes close.

Can this itinerary be done solo?

Yes — solo travellers are welcome on all Serac Adventure programmes. On Kilimanjaro, solo climbers are paired with a private guide and dedicated porter team. For the safari, solo travellers either take a private vehicle (more expensive) or join a small group departure (more economical). Zanzibar is ideal for solo travel.
